Fall is my favorite season! It’s not too hot, there’s pumpkin everything, and it’s the perfect weather to cuddle up and read books with my toddler. Here are a few fall books for toddlers we’re checking out this year!

1. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves
This book was at the top of my must-read list just because it reminded me of an Iliza Schlesinger sketch about how women love fall so much. “Did you just eat a leaf?” “I did.”
2. We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt
Toot loves hunting for leaves. She loves to gather leaves during our walks around the neighborhood and bring them home to investigate.
3. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves
This is a beautiful picture book. We’ve been moving away from board books recently to gorgeous picture books. Fletcher is a fox that thinks there’s something wrong when the leaves fall from his favorite tree.
4. Mouse’s First Fall
If you’re still giving your little one board books, this is a cute one! Mouse has a series of books so, of course, there’s one about fall.
5. I Love Fall!
Touchy feely books are so much fun! Here’s an adorable board book about fall!
6. Fall Mixed Up
I think this is one of my favorite fall books for toddlers! It’s cute and the illustrations are beautiful. It has mix ups in it, and it’s fun to find them. “Bears gather nuts. Geese hibernate. Squirrels fly south in big figure eights.”
7. Bats at the Library
I’m a sucker for books about the library. It’s so meta. And I’m trying to teach Toot that even the less cuddly animals like bats are interesting and fun.
8. Too Many Pumpkins
This fall book has a classic feel to it. It was published in the 90s so it reminds me of books from my childhood. It’s a longer storybook so it requires a bit more reading time than some of the other books on the list. But it’s cute.
9. The Roll-Away Pumpkin
This pumpkin book is whimsical and cute. The author uses repeating sentence structures that keep little ears interested.
10. Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin
We have a few Duck & Goose books. They’re really popular. This one is a large board book perfect for little hands to flip through or to share with mom or dad.
11. Because of an Acorn
This is more of a science book because it teaches what acorns do to provide for the ecosystem. But it’s simple enough for a toddler.
12. Room on the Broom
I’m in love with the animated version of this book. Gillian Anderson is in it! (I’m a bit of a fangirl. lol) So naturally, we had to get this book to prepare for Halloween. It’s adorable and a must for your library. We have the board book, but it also comes in paperback and hardcover.
13. The Biggest Pumpkin Ever
This is a cute book about two mice both caring for a pumpkin. One wants to carve it into a jack-o-lantern and one wants to win the biggest pumpkin competition!
14. The Ugly Pumpkin
Here’s a cute fall twist on the Ugly Duckling. He’s an ugly pumpkin that doesn’t get picked for Halloween, but Thanksgiving is his saving grace. I love retellings of fairy tales.
15. The Autumn Visitors
This is a beautiful book with stunning illustrations. It’s about a family of bears that visit New England for the fall, and they do all of the typical fall activities.
16. Autumn is Here!
Autumn is Here teaches kids about how the world changes during fall. The watercolor pictures are to die for!
17. Fall Leaves Colorful and Crunchy
Cloverleaf Books has a bunch of fall books for toddlers. Fall Leaves is just one of them. They’re cute and educational!
18. Pumpkin Town or Nothing is Better or Worse Than Pumpkins
Pumpkin Town was written by a former teacher who accidentally planted too many pumpkin seeds and found out that wasn’t a good idea! So she wrote a book about it!
19. Awesome Autumn
Here’s a non-fiction educational book about fall. It has some cool fall facts.
20. Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn
Have I mentioned that I’m in love with the illustrations in these books? Because wow. So pretty! I’d consider this one to be coffee table artwork worthy.
21. Fall is Not Easy
Fall is easy for us. We get to drink pumpkin spice lattes! Fall is not easy for trees. This is a cute fall book!
22. Squirrel’s Fall Search
Toot loves watching the squirrels outside. I swear they’re just tree rats, but she thinks they’re the greatest thing ever. So a squirrely tale of fall is something a toddler would love.
