So you’re probably already aware of the free two-day shipping that comes with Amazon Prime. That’s like one of the main Amazon Prime benefits that people sign up for.
And you probably knew about Prime video because they have some amazing original shows. That’s another huge reason to get it. (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, y’all.)
But there are a lot more that you probably didn’t know about! Here are nine more benefits that Amazon Prime offers.

{This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link.}
1. Kindle First
Did you know that Prime members get a free kindle book every month before they’re released? Like not just the self-published free books, but the ones that are published by the big companies that are $5 per ebook.
They give you a choice of six books. Each one is from a different genre. So if fantasy isn’t your thing, you can pick the thriller or the contemporary fiction. I’m glad they do it that way. I’m not too terribly picky when it comes to genres but I’m not into fantasy or romance.
The books are chosen by the editors at Amazon, and they’ll give you a little note as to why they chose it.
You have all month long to decide which one you want to claim. If you want more than one, you can buy the others for $4.99 each.
You can sign up for email alerts to remind you that there are new books available at the beginning of the month. (I always forget.)
So if you aren’t claiming your Kindle First books every month, you’re missing out on 12 free ebooks per year. That’s $60 worth of free ebooks! Sometimes they let you pick more than one. Last Prime Day didn’t go very well so they gave everyone all six Kindle First books for free.
And just to give you examples of what they’ve offered in the past, here some are the books I’ve picked:
- Dead Certain
- Crimes Against a Book Club
- Hemingway Didn’t Say That: The Truth Behind Familiar Quotations
- The Marvelous Misadventures of Ingrid Winter

2. Prime Reading Library
Speaking of free books, did you know that you can already borrow books for free? You’ve probably heard of Kindle Unlimited. That’s an extra thing you pay for. But Prime Reading comes with your Prime account.
They don’t offer as many books and magazines as Kindle Unlimited, but you can still borrow books for free with no due date. It’s one of my favorite Amazon Prime benefits.
You can have up to 10 items in your Prime Reading Library at once. I read The Handmaid’s Tale and The Storied Life of AJ Fikry with it. I will also borrow kids’ books and read them to Toot quite a bit.
Here is the Prime Reading Library. It’s a bit hard to find on their website. They don’t advertise it as much as Kindle Unlimited. And it’s kind of confusing to figure out which books are Prime and which ones are Kindle Unlimited. Some can be both. There will be a Prime check mark and a “read for free” button.
3. Prime Photos
Prime lets you store an unlimited amount of photos on their cloud. And if you have the Prime Photos app, it will automatically upload your photos from your phone to your Prime Photos.
You can also store up to 5 GB of video or files. (You can upgrade to unlimited storage for everything if you need to for another $59.99 per year.)
It keeps them organized by date, place, and it can recognize faces so if you’re looking for a photo of yourself, it can find all of the photos of you.
You can also make your own albums, and order prints directly from the cloud.
And you know how Facebook has that “On This Day” feature? Well, Prime Photos has that, too! It’s not just the photos you upload to Facebook, it’s all of the photos you took that day. The app will send you a notification every day if you’re like me and want to see them every single day!
4. Save an extra 20% on diaper subscriptions
I don’t know where I would be without my monthly diaper subscription. Oh wait, yes I do. I’d be out of diapers.
Subscribe and save is available to everyone but only at 5% savings on diapers. Prime members save 20%! What what!
It also comes in a huge box that Toot spends all month playing in and covering in crayon and stickers.
You can also put your wipes and Diaper Genie inserts on Subscribe and Save.
5. 15% baby registry completion discount
So when I was pregnant with Toot, we registered at Babies R Us because that is what everyone does. We also registered at Amazon and Target as a backup.
Turns out, you get a better registry completion discount at Amazon if you’re a Prime member than you do at any other store. Most stores are 10%. Amazon offers 15% for Prime members, 10% for everyone else.
Even though most of our registry was on Babies R Us, we were able to add what we wanted to our Amazon registry and buy it immediately. This is one of the Amazon Prime benefits that sold me on the Prime membership. We didn’t have it until a month before Toot was born, and we needed 15% off the 4Moms Mamaroo. (We had to have it!)
6. Prime Music
Amazon is taking a lesson from Spotify. People don’t want to buy music anymore. We just want access to a giant streaming library.
Unfortunately, Prime Music doesn’t have as many songs as Spotify (which is why we pay for Spotify, too), but they still have a LOT of music.
I keep all of Toot’s music on Prime. They have some great kids’ music! Here’s one of her favorite playlists.
The nice thing about Prime Music is that if there are songs or albums you want but aren’t available for streaming, you can just buy them. Spotify doesn’t let you do that.
And if you buy a vinyl or actual CD, they give you the digital version, too! I bought the Twenty One Pilots vinyl album for my sister for Christmas, and I got the digital album for free.
7. Twitch Prime
Twitch.tv is a streaming website/app that allows users (usually gamers) to live stream themselves. It’s similar to YouTube, but it’s only for live streaming.
Most of people that are on Twitch are just there to watch the pros or internet stars. You can subscribe to a single streamer for $5 a month to support them and to get rid of ads. You also get emojis for the chat that are specific to the channel. But my husband says it’s mainly about the no ads thing and supporting your favorite streamer.
So recently Amazon Prime added Twitch Prime. It gives you some free in-game goodies every month, no ads, and you can support a streamer of your choice. They give you one free subscription. It’s all included in your Amazon Prime!
That’s saving us $5 a month. B had subscribed to some guy so we were able to switch it over to the Prime included stream. The only catch is that you have to resubscribe every month. I believe it’s so you don’t just forget about it then Amazon ends up paying hundreds to a person that isn’t actually drawing active viewers.
8. Early Access to Lightning Deals
I don’t use the lightning deals very often. But I LOVE them on Prime Day. Basically, lightning deals are what they sound like. A limited number of a certain item are on a huge discount for a limited time.
Prime members get access to them 30 minutes before the general public does.
So you get first dibs on awesome deals! They may even sell out before it opens to everyone else.
9. Audible Channels
Audible channels are podcasts that are only available to Prime members. You don’t have to be an Audible member to get them for free. They come with Prime. (Although, Audible is awesome and you should try it. I live by audiobooks.)
There are some really good Audible channels from Lewis Black and Nick Offerman. They’re pretty short episodes at like 5-10 minutes each. There a few long-form channels that are over an hour each, too. There’s something for everyone!
Did you know about these Amazon Prime Benefits?
So maybe you knew about a few of these, but I bet you didn’t know about all of them! Every time I tell someone about Kindle First, they’re like WHAT????
Unfortunately, some of these are only available for the primary account holder. So if you share an account with someone, this could be an issue. B and I only have one profile/account so I didn’t know it was a problem until my friend was crushed she could get a free book!
