Amazon Prime is a luxury, but I can’t see myself living without it. The accessibility to so many products with free two day shipping is a godsend. And more Americans can now access this service. Amazon is offering a discounted membership to people on government assistance.

Amazon Prime is a life tool
The sheer abundance of so many products at your fingertips is astounding. You can find basically anything on Amazon. And you can be holding in your hand in two business days.
I don’t waste time at the store looking for hand soap or a notebook. I can order something I need from my phone, laptop, or even my Amazon Echo Dot, and it shows up on my front porch in two days. And I don’t have to worry about shipping costs!
I don’t forget to buy things because I can purchase them immediately from anywhere. The other day I ordered paper towels while I was cleaning up something Toot spilled. I noticed we were running low so as I was dabbing the carpet I said, “Alexa, order paper towels.” Our Echo Dot very nicely placed the order for me. (Then I asked her to tell me a joke because I was mad about the spill. Lol)
For people on government assistance it could be a life saver
Most people are aware that buying in bulk lowers the overall cost of each item. When you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you can’t buy things in bulk because they’re just too expensive. Amazon has such low prices on bulk diapers (and other products) when you use Amazon’s subscribe and save option. And now that the Prime membership is discounted, buying in bulk is within reach!
You also might have to work long hours or two jobs and can’t make it to the store when you really need something. Amazon Prime allows you to order products at low prices and get them in two business days. Or even in two HOURS if you live in a Prime Now eligible zip code!
I hardly ever actually set foot in an actual store. I can do it all from home without dragging my kid out of the house or waiting until my husband gets home from work.

Amazon boxes also make good forts!
So who qualifies for the discounted Prime membership?
Anyone with a valid EBT card qualifies for the discounted membership. So that means anyone on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC).
You can’t use your EBT to pay for the membership, but it qualifies you for the discount.
Each customer can qualify for the discount every 12 months up to 4 times. And you can cancel at any time if you need to.
Amazon will add more ways to qualify in the future for people who are on government assistance programs that don’t use the EBT card.

What does it cost and what do you get?
The discounted membership is only $5.99 per month. And you get all of the regular features that prime members get! Prime Video, Music, Reading, everything! So not only is it useful for shopping, it’s also entertaining!
A few of Toot’s favorite shows are exclusive to Prime Video like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. They have a generous collection of kids shows available to Prime members.
The regular price for Amazon Prime is $10.99 per month. So if you’re on a government assistance program, you can save $5 a month.

If my state uses checks instead of EBT cards for WIC, am I still eligible for the prime discount?
Niki at Toot's Mom is Tired says
No I think you have an actual EBT card for it to work. I heard they’re trying to expand it in the future though.
