Do you have friends that just hate baby shower games? You still want to invite them to the shower, and you still want to play games!
But you have to find games they would actually want to play.
We had a lot of fun at my baby showers in 2015. Yes I said showers! I had FOUR. Our families are huge and my friends wanted to do their own so I ended up with four parties.
We played a lot of different games so I’ll share my favorites.
Here are some baby shower games that don’t require you to eat baby food or look at candy bars in diapers. (Gross!) And some that don’t require any effort or participation at all!
Your friends will thank you.

Rob Your Neighbor
This was one of my favorite games at my baby shower.
There are many ways to play it, but the way my aunt set up for my shower worked really well. It was exciting and fun for everyone.
It’s a very high energy game because you may actually be running to the other side of the room.
We had my shower in a hall/gym at a church. You’ll need a lot of space for this game.
Works best for:
Big showers of 25 or more people with plenty of space
Supplies needed:
- Prizes wrapped in boxes or in bags so you can’t see what they are. (Here are some prize ideas) One per team.
- Dice. Two per team
- Pie tins. One per team
- A timer (or a phone with a timer app)
How to play:
Split your guests into teams. You can do this by table if you have 3-6 people per table. I suggest 6 as a max per team.
Each team gets a pie tin with two dice. The pie tins make it easier to keep the dice in one spot when you roll them and easier to pass around.
Put all of the prizes in the center or up at the front. You should have one prize per team, but that doesn’t mean that a prize has to go to each team.
Anyone can win any of the prizes.
It’s just a good idea to have enough that at least one person per team could win.
Also please note: even though people are on teams, they’re actually competing against each other. It’s an every-woman-for-herself type of game. The teams are just a way to share the dice so it’s more fair.
Set a timer for however long you want. At least 5 minutes probably not more than 15.
Each person in a team takes a turn rolling the dice.
If you roll a double, you get to grab a prize and pass the dice to the next person in your team. If you don’t roll a double, you just pass the dice to the next person. And it continues around the team until the timer goes off.
Once all of the prizes are gone from the front or middle, you are free to grab ANY prize from someone else. Hence, “rob your neighbor.”
Everyone running around grabbing prizes from each other really gets your adrenaline going. It’s a lot of fun!
When the timer goes off, everyone that has a prize in their possession gets to keep them!
You might want to inform your guests that they are not allowed to hide the prizes. We had issues with that! lol
The Cute Game
I love this game because I hate when everyone comments “how cute!” after EVERY. SINGLE. GIFT.
So some lovely person invented this game to force people to come up with more words to describe baby items. “Adorable” is usually everyone’s go-to after cute is taken away from their vocabulary.
This one can be very competitive, and you have to be a little creative with your word choice.
It’s also easy to quietly sit out for friends that hate baby shower games.
Works best for:
Any size shower
Supplies needed:
- Beaded necklaces (Pink, Blue, Gold, Multicolor) or ribbon with baby items. One per guest.
- A thesaurus (optional)
How to Play:
Hand out a necklace to each player before the gift opening.
You can use beaded necklaces or use ribbon and tie something baby related to it. I’ve seen plastic pacifiers used.
My mom threw a shower once for my cousin and used baby items like rattles, real pacifiers, and small stuffed animals. The mommy-to-be gets to keep them after the game is over!
While the new mom is opening her gifts, no one is allowed to say the word “cute.”
If someone does say it, anyone can call them out on it. The person who calls them out gets their necklace.
After all of the gifts have been opened, the person with the most necklaces wins!
Anyone that loses their necklace during the game isn’t automatically out. They can still call out other people and get necklaces back.

Cake Plate Roulette
This game requires no skill or involvement. So it’s perfect for all of your friends that say “I hate baby shower games!”
There’s no jumping through hoops to play this game. You don’t have to awkwardly try to sit out. You don’t have to have knowledge of every baby item on the market.
You just get to eat cake!
Works best for:
Any size shower but especially easy for big showers.
Supplies needed:
- Cake plates
- A pen or Sharpie
How to play:
Before the party, draw or write something on the bottom of one of the cake plates. Make it small so it’s not obvious through the top of it.
Then randomly mix it back in with the rest of the cake plates.
Don’t tell the guests about the game before serving cake. They might try to look for the winning plate.
Serve cake normally, and once everyone has a cake plate in their hand tell them about the game.
Whoever has the doodle or word written on the bottom wins a prize!
I drew a penguin on the bottom of the plate for my BFF’s penguin themed shower. (She’s really into penguins.)
But you can just mark an X if you want or write the mom’s name or baby’s name.
Super simple setup and no big fuss.

Time-Bomb Gift
Okay, so there really isn’t a name for this game. I just made that up. It’s another game that doesn’t require involvement.
The only playing component to this game is luck.
Another good one for Debbie Downers who don’t want to play baby shower games.
Works best for:
Any size shower but especially easy big showers.
Supplies needed:
- A timer or timer app.
- Confetti (optional)
How to play:
This is another game to play during gift opening (go figure!) so before it starts, set a timer for a random time.
Try to estimate how long it will take the new mommy to open her gifts and plan a time somewhere in the middle.
You can either show the time to everyone or keep it a surprise.
Personally, I like to keep it hidden so people aren’t eyeing how far back their gift is and keeping an eye on the time.
When the timer goes off, throw confetti over the mommy-to-be. You can totally skip this part if you don’t want to deal with the mess.
But if you’re in a place that cleans up for you, go for it! It’s a great addition to the game!
The person who gave the present the new mom is opening when the timer goes off is the winner. It’s the “timebomb!”
Baby Shower Bingo
Bingo is one of the most common baby shower games. It’s the only traditional game that I’ve found most people like!
Who doesn’t like to play bingo?
I pretty much expect this game at every shower I go to because it’s so popular. It’s very competitive, and I go in prepared!
It’s all about what you give the mommy-to-be! Just make a line with items you gave her and hope your gift is opened at the beginning! lol
This is a great game to get everyone involved with the gift opening ceremony. Yes, it’s a ceremony because we all fawn over each baby thing.
Without a game during present-time, it’s kind of boring. I mean, yeah, it’s nice to see what she received, and you want to see her open your gift.
But let’s face it, it’s boring. With bingo, there’s an incentive to pay attention to each and every gift!
Works best for:
Any size shower
Supplies needed:
- Bingo cards – I got that covered for you! Here are FREE Bingo cards!
- Pens or pencils
- Hi-liters or tokens to mark the spaces with (optional)
How to play:
Hand out the bingo cards before gift opening starts.
Give everyone at least 5 minutes to fill out their card with items they think the mom-to-be will receive.
The middle space is a free space (obviously).
As the new mommy opens her gifts, everyone can mark off the items on their cards. Once someone has a line across, BINGO!
You can continue playing if you have extra prizes to give out. Most of the baby showers I’ve been to have done at least two bingoes if not three.
Someone might get bingo within the first 5 presents so it’s best to give out at least two prizes for bingo.
If you get more than one bingo at a time and not enough prizes, you’ll need to do a tie breaker game. See tie breakers for baby shower games here.
Mad Libs about Mom and Dad
This is my absolute favorite baby shower game! I’m a grammar nerd so I love Mad Libs.
We had so much fun playing this game at my shower, and it’s not one you see at every single shower. So it didn’t feel like I had done it a hundred times before.
It’s also a game where you get rewarded for being funny and creative. That’s my kinda game!
The hard part about this game is coming up with a Mad Lib that works. I got you covered though. I made a Mad Lib (and tested it!) that is a letter to the baby from each guest telling him or her about Mommy and Daddy.
You can keep them for the baby to read when he or she gets older, too! So it’s a nice keepsake as well.
The printable comes in blue, pink, and green so you can either go gendered or not.
Works best for:
Small to medium showers of fewer than 20 people
Supplies needed:
- Mad Libs baby shower printable. Get it here for only $5!
- Pens or pencils
How to play:
Start out by handing out pens or pencils and the answer sheet full of blanks to the guests.
Allow them time to fill in their funny word choices. This game takes some creativity.
You might also want to go over what the parts of speech are. (I didn’t include adverbs in mine because no one remembers what they do! lol)
There are a few ways you can read the answers:
- Gather all of the answer sheets, go through them, and pick the funniest one for each blank. Then read it aloud to everyone.
- Everyone holds onto their answers. You read the story and when you get to a blank ask the guests what they had. You don’t have to do each and every person. It can be on a volunteer basis.
- Hand out the story to everyone so they can fill it in. Have a few volunteers read theirs aloud.
You can decide a winner based on who had the funniest story as a whole or just the funniest answer for one blank.

I love the tell me about my parents game!! I’ll have to remember that one next time I’m helping out with a shower. I’m really not a fan of games much either. I do think the cake one is a good one too though!!

Let me start by saying that I am in awe of the creativity of these games. I tend to find a lot of baby shower games boring because everyone does the same standard games. I will be pinning this.

This is literally an ice-breaker game! The night before the shower, put tiny plastic babies into an ice cube tray and fill with water. You may need to fill more than one ice tray. When the guests arrive, have them pick one piece of ice and place it in their drink.
