Top 10 Best Melissa and Doug Toys for Toddlers

I have found my favorite brand of toys, and it’s Melissa and Doug. Their toys are so simple and allow your child to use their imagination while they’re playing and learning.

They have a such a wide variety of options that you could buy only Melissa and Doug toys for your toddler’s birthday or Christmas and they wouldn’t get too similar of toys.

Let me show you a few of my favorites.

Top 10 Best Melissa and Doug Toys for Toddlers

1. The Wooden Brew and Serve Coffee Set

This play coffee maker was one of Toot’s Christmas presents when she was about 18 months old.

I instantly had to add it to my cart because I’m in love with my Keurig coffee maker and I wanted Toot to be able to make coffee just like mommy does.

One of my favorite things about these little sets is that they’re made of wood and not plastic. A lot of toys are plastic nowadays and the wooden ones just seem more sturdy.

And they make you think of toys of the past like the ones our grandparents had. My grandpa was a carpenter and made EVERYTHING out of wood. I’m surprised my dad isn’t made of wood.

She still plays with this set at 4 years old.

2. Jumbo Extra-Thick Cardboard Building Blocks

These blocks were another instant cart add for me. I had blocks like these when I was a kid, and I knew Toot had to have them.

I have a lot of fun memories of building towers with my parents and even more fun memories knocking them down.

Toot’s favorite activity is destroying things so these are perfect for her.

We keep them in the bottom of her closet and she still drags out the box of blocks to build tall towers. She’s had them for 3 years now. She got them for her first birthday.

3. Slice and Bake Wooden Cookie Set

I actually got this set for Toot on Prime Day for an amazing deal. I would’ve given it to her for her birthday but Prime Day was two days after her birthday!

I ended up saving this cookie set until Christmas when she was a year and a half old, and she LOVES IT.

This is another set she continued to play with as a toddler and now as a preschooler.

4. Wooden Peg Puzzles Set

I got this puzzle set on Prime Day, too! (If you don’t have Prime, you should totally check it out.)

She’s been playing with these puzzles since she was a year old and she still likes to do them.

We keep all of the pieces in zip lock bags so we don’t lose them. Otherwise I’d go crazy. You can also get a little shelf stacker thing to hold your Melissa and Doug puzzle sets.

5. Children’s Match and Build Blocks

These blocks are soft! They also have little pictures babies or toddlers can match up.

These don’t hurt as much when Toot flings them at me. She was very into throwing things when she was a year old. Throwing her toys is her favorite activity.

These blocks would make a perfect gift for a one year old. They aren’t going to break them, and they come in a nice carrying bag.

6. Fill and Spill Toolbox

My dad is a contractor and comes from a family of carpenters. So naturally, I had to get Toot a toolbox. I had play tools as a kid and loved them.

These are soft toys so she can’t hurt herself (or me) with them. (I mentioned the throwing, right?)

I’m also trying to get her more “boy toys” or what would be traditionally geared toward boys. I’d like her to have a wide variety of toys.

And this set is a first step into STEM as part of the engineering category.

7. Deluxe Pounding Bench

I love simple, classic toys. This toy will hopefully satisfy her need to beat the crap out of something.

It also teaches cause and effect since the other side pops up when they hammer down a peg.

The pounding bench was a good toy for keeping my toddler busy for about 20 minutes.

8. Shape, Model, and Mold Clay

Ok, I had to get her something art related. I’ve always loved art. And this clay modeling set is basically their version of Playdoh.

My daughter is a very tactile learner. She really liked this set.

It also helps improve fine motor skills. She’s doing pretty well with fine motor, but she needs more practice.

Even if your clay dries out, the tools are pretty cool. And you can use them with regular playdoh too.

If you have certain sensory bins they’re great for that too.

9. Wooden Latches Board

Does your toddler need to work on problem solving skills? This is the toy for you. And it also helps with fine motor skills.

There are 6 little doors for toddlers to open with different kinds of latches.

I know what you’re thinking because I was thinking it too. Isn’t this just teaching your kid to get into stuff they aren’t supposed to? Or get out of the house?

Well, I haven’t had a problem with Toot. They’ll learn how to open all of these types of locks anyway. Might as well make it a game.

And it’ll keep your toddler busy for a while.

10. Magnetic Dress Up Sets

We have several of the Melissa and Doug magnetic dress up sets.

They’re mostly intended for older toddlers and preschoolers. So these are more for two-year-olds and three-year-olds.

The people come with a little stand so they can stand up. Your toddler can put the magnets of clothes on them however they like.

There are TONS of sets and most of them are $10 to $20 so they make great gift ideas. They even have Disney sets and a Santa set for Christmas.

I debated giving her the coffee set early today because she keeps trying to drink my coffee! lol I’ve heard from a couple of my friends how much their kids love it. One of my friends said it’s the first thing her son makes her when they play kitchen.
