January was my best month so far for blog income! The source of most of my income shifted a bit from last month. I had more sponsored content and different affiliates performed better than others. My traffic also increased! Here’s a quick rundown of how my blog performed in January!
Why I blog
Before we get into the numbers, I just want to give you a brief overview of the blog. I started Toot’s Mom is Tired to share parenting tips and life hacks for new moms. Toot was born at the beginning of a baby boom among my friends. It seemed like everyone I knew announced that they were pregnant right after I did.
Since Toot is the oldest of this new generation, I had to go through every milestone first. And I figured I might as well pass on any useful information to my friends that I had learned so they could be prepared for what was coming up.
So that’s how the idea of a blog was born. I randomly came across a post about blogging on Pinterest and found out you can make money from blogging! I thought, “Ok, why not give it a shot?” Instead of just relaying parenting tips to my circle of friends on Facebook, I can put it out there for everyone who is interested and maybe make a few bucks, too.
Turns out, you can actually make a living off of blogging! So that’s what I plan to work toward. I’ve always loved writing, and now I get paid to do it!
Why I do blog income reports
Comparison is a tricky thing. You shouldn’t compare your blog stats to mine exactly. Every blog is different and every blogger puts in different amount of work, has different skills, and tries different techniques. So I don’t really post these for you to compare them to yours.
I post blog income reports to inspire other bloggers and to give helpful tips to what worked for me. Maybe what worked for me will help you, but maybe it won’t. So don’t feel discouraged if you aren’t making any money. Try new techniques!
You should also know that I’m not a top blogger. There are other bloggers making more than me, and they’ve been blogging for a shorter amount of time. It’s not an exact science.
So this post is for informational purposes only, and I hope it will help you! I also have all of my blogging tips in my How to Blog series!
Ads: $0. Still not a part of any ad network.
Sponsored Content: $132.
- Zazzle: $69 (Please note that I’ve been on Zazzle for years so this isn’t specific to my blog. I’m including it because I have had a lot of traffic from my Ultimate Guide to Earning Extra Money with Zazzle post.)
- Amazon: $2*
- Ebates: $25
- Impact Radius: $9*
- ShareASale: $21
*I haven’t hit the payout threshold for these so they are still pending
(side note: I also made $13 on InboxDollars, but that’s not really blog related. That’s just me watching videos and doing surveys. Yay!)
Totals for January
Net Income: $258

Where did it come from?

This month I switched from MailChimp to ConvertKit for my email list. I absolutely love the options that come with it! Segmenting my email subscribers was the one thing I really wanted. Ok, I also really wanted to easily be able to send freebies and opt-ins. My email list is growing even without my finished opt-in resource library! (I’m mad at myself for not finishing it this month, though.)
I got a huge spike in traffic near the end of the month from a popular Pinterest user repinning my 10 Things I Miss About Being Pregnant pin. I believe she found my pin in one of the Tailwind tribes I’m in. This isn’t the first time I’ve gotten a huge spike from a tribe member repinning my stuff. Back in October a
This isn’t the first time I’ve gotten a huge spike from a tribe member repinning my stuff. Back in October a pinner with 100k followers repinned two or three of my posts! Huge spike! She had also gotten them from Tailwind tribes.
What Didn’t Work
My Amazon sales have dropped off drastically from last month. I’m guessing it’s because the holiday season is over and people are in save mode. I know we stopped buying things on Amazon left and right after Christmas. I’m guessing everyone else did, too. And that’s okay.
On Instagram, I used to post a text title photo of my blog post. I found out this month that doing that isn’t really worth it. It’s better to just post photos with a caption about the post. I also changed my strategy for Instagram from trying to get clicks to my blog to getting engagement. It will open doors for future sponsored content.
Goals for January
- Actually finish my book. FAIL… I don’t want to talk about it.
- Redo my resources page. FAIL. I did work on it. It’s just not finished yet.
- Set up ConvertKit. PASS
- Get ahead on content creation by at least one week. KINDA PASS. Ok, so I was ahead for a bit but then not for a week or two.
Goals for February
- No, for real, finish my book.
- Set up resource library for moms opt-in
Ok, I’m only going to aim for two goals this month since they’re pretty big. This month I did get an intern, (HI, TABITHA!), and she has been helping me with pinning on Tailwind and creating some of my resources for moms.
Alright, enough of me being completely unproductive. LET’S DO THIS.
What about you? What are your goals?
